Avengers: Damage Control VR Experience Announced

Marvel has revealed a new virtual reality experience called Avengers: Damage Control

Details are surprisingly thin about what this thing actually is, but from what we can gather from the business speak and congratulatory information released thus far, Damage Control is going to be a VR event that you will have to book tickets for via this website. Tickets are only currently available in nine cities (six in the US, three in Canada), so be sure to check out whether or not you’re even going to be close enough to participate

What is Damage Control, though? That’s a good question that seems to intentionally be something of a mystery at the moment. The event’s description states that Shuri from Black Panther has “recruited your team to test a powerful new prototype design combining Wakandan and Stark technologies.” It seems that an enemy “from the past” is trying to steal this technology, and you’ll have to fight alongside the Avengers in order to stop them. Of course, that fight will take place in VR. It also sounds like the event will utilize physical effects like “heat and wind” to sell the VR atmosphere.

It seems that this VR experience will allow you to “shoot repulsor blasts with your own two hands” and “go beyond the screen, and become a character in the story itself.” We’re guessing that this will be less of a traditional game, then, and more of a guided tour amusement park ride. Again, though, there isn’t a lot of information available at this time regarding the specifics of the experience.

Kevin Feige states that the Marvel team is “always looking for new stories and corners of the universe for our characters to explore” and that Avengers: Damage Control will “give fans the chance to suit up alongside some their favorite heroes for the first time ever.” That last line seems historically debatable, but hey, who has the time to argue about semantics on the internet?

We’re also curious about the use of the term “Damage Control” in relation to this event. In the comics, Damage Control was something of a superhero clean-up crew, and the team was previously referenced in Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, it doesn’t sound like you’ll necessarily be part of that team for this particular event.
