Deadly Premonition and No More Heroes Creators Collaborating on Horror Game

Games

Goichi “Suda51” Suda (creator of No More Heroes and Killer 7) and Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro (creator of the infamous Deadly Premonition) are teaming up to work on a new horror game seemingly known as Hotel Barcelona

Everything about this announcement is strange, so you’re going to have to bear with us as we try to sort this mess out. The video in which this game was “revealed” sees the two creators sit down to talk about the project. It’s an odd way to reveal such a project, but what’s really strange is that the tone of the video suggests that the two creators are kind of just figuring this thing out as they go along.

For instance, the two mention the cult classic horror game Siren when describing what they’re going for with this title. Their statements suggest that the game could play with the concepts of timelines like that title did and that Hotel Barcelona will be a somewhat traditional survival horror title from a mechanical perspective. Swery also referenced Twin Peaks when describing the atmosphere of tension that he’s going for with this title.

It also sounds like the pair haven’t quite figured out who the game’s protagonist will be, what the plot will focus on, or even where the setting is. To top it all off, the pair referenced Devolver Digital as the game’s publisher, but Devolver Digital has stated on Twitter that they’re not currently publishing this game but are very interested in doing so if the project’s creators want to pitch it to them.

So what should we take away from all this? Well, it sounds like two of the strangest creators in gaming are interested in working on a horror game that involves a hotel and will be partially inspired by Twin Peaks and Siren. However, they currently have no plot in place, no main character, no setting, a working title, and it doesn’t sound like they have a publisher, planned released platforms, or a release window available at this time.

Granted, that’s not a lot to go on, but given the time of year and the talent level involved with this project, we’re quite excited to see what comes out of this.
