This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
The masked juggernaut of a villain in Jedi: Fallen Order has a look which may be familiar to fans of Star Wars comics. She’s the Second Sister, one of the Inquisitors tasked with hunting down surviving Jedi in the days after the Emperor initiated Order 66.
Her first appearance in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith #19 by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli introduced the Second Sister to the order of Jedi hunters already established by the Rebels animated series. While comic heavily focuses on the genesis of Darth Vader and his castle on Mustafar, we also get to see the early days of the Inquisitorius as well as a mission in which the Inquisitors steal a Force-sensitive child.
Throughout the comic, Darth Vader is shown attacking and executing Inquisitors, who have a camaraderie between one another and are curious about their leader. Like the Jedi Order he left, Vader forbids attachment between his Force-strong underlings. The Second Sister appears only briefly, standing beside the Grand Inquisitor. She witnesses Vader attacking her brethren, but does not stand up for them.

This approach to violence isn’t unusual for an Inquisitor. The Inquisitors first appeared in Rebels as Force-sensitive foils to the Jedi Kanan Jarrus and his apprentice, Ezra Bridger. Where Kanan and Ezra were mostly alone against the galaxy, the Inquisitors were organized into squads of Jedi-killers. Lead by the Grand Inquisitor, each had a number instead of a name. There is no clear indication so far that the numbers indicate rank or skill, although the Grand Inquisitor was the first of Vader’s soldiers chosen to hunt Kanan in Rebels season one. The Seventh Sister and Sixth Brother follow in the Grand Inquisitor’s footsteps after Kanan defeats their leader.
The Inquisitors work as a unit, each equipped with double-bladed spinning lightsabers, better known as “Inquisitor lightsabers,” and are relentless in their pursuit of light side Force users. They fill roughly the same role as the Legends timeline’s Dark Jedi, but less cultish and more organized, fueled by a singular mission.
So where does the Second Sister fit into all of this? In the reference book, The Dark Side by Tricia Barr, the Second Sister is described as “a vindictive and devious warrior, [she] was animated by a ferocious hatred towards the Jedi Order, which had profoundly deceived her.” (Note that this is a Google translation since the book was published in French.) Because of her history with the Jedi, some believe that the Second Sister was originally Barriss Offee, a Jedi who betrayed the Order.

That name should sound familiar to fans of The Clone Wars. Formerly a valiant and loyal Jedi padawan, Offee became disillusioned with the Jedi due to her belief that they had instigated the Clone Wars and that the Republic was doomed to fall. Convinced that the Jedi had to be stopped, Offee bombed the Jedi Temple. Anakin Skywalker’s own padawan, Ahsoka Tano, was framed for the crime at first, but Offee eventually confessed and was arrested. The character’s fate following her arrest remains a mystery.
One thing is for sure: if the Second Sister truly is Barriss Offee, her arrest and likely excommunication from the Jedi Order provides a clear path for the former padawan to become the Second Sister, now a student of the dark side led by the armored killing machine once known as Anakin. Offee’s presence in Jedi: Fallen Order would certainly elevate the game’s story into something truly special for fans of the larger Star Wars universe. The likelihood of this scenario depends on how much time Respawn Entertainment wants to spend recapping Offee’s background before the Jedi Purge.
Judging from the Jedi: Fallen Order trailers, the Second Sister will bring all her aggression down on young Order 66 survivor Cal Kestis, who is forced to live a life as a fugitive while unlocking his true potential as a Force user. Whoever the Second Sister turns out to be — or maybe she really just is a new acolyte of the dark side who loves killing Jedi — she’ll likely prove to be a major threat for Cal, who never completed his training. We’ll have to wait to see more of the Second Sister, including more gameplay footage that fleshes out her abilities. For now, it appears that she will be the game’s major antagonist, a dark Force user who knows exactly how to exploit a Jedi’s weaknesses.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out on Nov. 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
