Apex Legends Season 4: New Legend, First Details, and Release Date

Games

Apex Legends Season 4 is on the way, and it’s bringing a new playable Legend with it.

The new character, named Forge, is described as a former MMA champion whose place in the in-game competition is oddly sponsored by Hammond Robotics. While Hammond Robotics has made a couple of cameos in Apex Legends, the company plays a much larger role in the Titanfall games. Their association with Forge may sound like a cute callback, but during a developer livestream, the Apex Legends team hinted that Hammond Robotics may play a large role in some upcoming map changes.

While we sadly don’t know much about Forge’s abilities at this time, it certainly seems like he will be a much more melee-focused character than the title’s other legends. We’d assume that means that he’ll be insanely powerful within relatively close range, but it will be interesting to see how the game balances that concept in a title that emphasizes evasion and rarely features prolonged close combat sequences.

Speaking of fighting from a distance, Apex Legends‘ Season 4 update will also feature a new sniper rifle known as the Sentinel. The sniper rifle is described as a bolt-action model that fires quite slowly but is incredibly powerful once it hits. It sounds like you’ll even be able to charge your shots for extra damage.

Interestingly, this season will also change Apex Legends‘ ranked mode quite a bit. Basically, the upcoming season of ranked play will be divided into two “splits.” The first split will take place on the World’s Edge map while the second will be located in Kings Canyon. Players will earn a ranking for each split and end of season awards will be based on your overall ranking across both splits.

Apex Legends has come a long way since the debut of its disappointing initial Battle Pass. While the game has endured some controversies since then, it’s still one of our favorite titles of 2019 and a battle royale that’s certainly worth losing some hours to.

Apex Legends Season 4 is expected to begin on February 4.
