The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Casts Supergirl Actor Carl Lumbly

TV

Supergirl‘s Carl Lumbly will be part of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the upcoming superhero series slated to premiere on Disney+ in August. According to Deadline, Lumbly has joined stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan on the production of the currently-filmed show, though we do not yet know which role he might be playing.

Deadline suggested the theory that Lumbly could appear on screen as Isaiah Bradley, who was introduced in the 2003 limited series run Truth: Red, White, & Black. In that story, the U.S. government uses African American test subjects during World War II to test a recreation of the Super Soldier serum originally used on Steve Rogers. Isaiah was one of the subjects and becomes an alternate version of Captain America as a result. Could Lumbly be playing an older version of that character? We’ll have to wait and see.

Whoever Lumbly is playing, this is a jump for the actor from the world of DC TV to the world of Marvel TV (or whatever it is we’re calling streaming series these days). Prior to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Lumbly held the recurring role as M’yrnn, aka the father of J’onn J’onzz (the Martian Manhunter) on Supergirl. He also previously voiced the Martian Manhunter himself on the Justice League animated series.

What do we know about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier so far? The official synopsis tells us: ”Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” Sounds like they are going to need all of the help they can get.
