The organizers of the Game Developers Conference have announced their intentions to host a special three-day event called GDC Summer which is currently set to run from August 4-6 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

“GDC Summer’s conference program will consist of high-quality technical content, mixed with valuable roundtable discussions to foster conversation and connection,” reads a recently shared press release from the event’s organizers. “The event will host a new series of microtalks and fireside chats, as well as a dedicated space for comprehensive career development sessions covering topics such as how to pitch your game, effective communication strategies, how to land an investor/publisher and business development strategies.”

The statement goes on to note that GDC Summer will feature a “new community partnership program” that will afford attendees the chance to “apply for space onsite to host meetings and gatherings.”The idea is that this arrangement will allow various industry members to have a space at the event for meetings and presentations that wouldn’t have been feasible before.

Of course, the big news here is the nature of the event itself and its projected timeline. As we all know, the impact of the coronavirus has loomed large over all of our daily lives. It’s impossible to break down the many, many ways that the spread of Covid-19 has changed the world, but for our purposes, let’s focus on how the spread of the virus has lead to the cancellation of everything from gaming events to film premieres.
