Yes, one of the greatest games of the previous console generation is getting a sequel. Fans hoped that Naughty Dog might find a way to return to the world of The Last of Us, but the nature of the original game’s ending left some to speculate whether the developers had said all there was to say about the adventure of Ellie and Joel.
The game is set five years after the first game. Ellie is now 19, a more seasoned survivor. But when her community comes into conflict with a mysterious cult, her resolve and skills will be tested. Along the way, she’ll run into some old friends and enemies.

The Last of Us 2 Story
Here’s the official synopsis: “Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors.
“When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.”
At PSX 2016, Naughty Dog director and writer Neil Druckmann shared the first bits of The Last of Us Part II story details, including what the focus will be in the sequel. Druckmann talked a bit about the tone and direction of the sequel’s story, saying that while the original was a story about love, “[Part II] is about hate.”
The story is broken up into four chapters, the first of which takes place in Jackson County, Wyoming, where the last game ended, although much of the game takes place in Seattle, which has been engulfed in a war between two rival factions: the heavily-armed Washington Liberation Front and the religious cult known as the Seraphites.
The Last of Us 2 Music
Writer/director Neil Druckmann confirmed that Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of The Last of Us‘ wonderful score, will also create the music for the sequel.
