The next game in Ubisoft’s hacking-focused open-world series is called Watch Dogs Legion, Ubisoft confirmed ahead of E3 2019. Watch Dogs Legion will be set in a dystopian “post-Brexit” version of London.
“Watch Dogs Legion is set in a near-future, dystopian version of London,” reads the game’s leaked description. “It’s a post-Brexit world in which society, politics, and technology have changed and altered London’s fortunes. London is one of the most iconic cities in the world and has had a massive influence on all of Western Culture for centuries… London makes total sense for WD, as the city has one of the highest surveillance levels in the world making this the perfect playground.”
Legion’s biggest gimmick is the ability to control a variety of characters and NPCs. If the resistance member you are currently playing as is killed, they are gone forever and it’s time to move on to someone else. Characters can range from brutish operatives to stealthy old ladies. On top of that, you’ll be able to scan the abilities of nearby characters and find ways to use them to your advantage. For instance, we see operatives pursue and recruit a drone expert to help them disable enemy machines.
It’s quite the impressive feature that looks truly expansive. Ubisoft really is aiming to let you play as any NPC and use whatever they may have to offer to your advantage. Watch Dogs 2 was great, but this is the kind of gimmick that might help the series really re-establish itself.
Here’s everything we know about Watch Dogs Legion.
Watch Dogs Legion Release Date
Watch Dogs Legion will be released on October 29 following a delay from its originally scheduled March release date. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC on that date.
There is no word regarding the release date for the next-gen versions of Watch Dogs Legion at this time. However, Phil Spencer of the Xbox team has confirmed that the game will utilize the Smart Delivery program, which means that Xbox One users who purchase the game on that platform will be able to upgrade the current-gen version of Legion to the Xbox Series X version for free whenever the latter becomes available.
