Cyberpunk 2077 will feature an expansive roster of characters, but it hasn’t taken long for many fans to focus on one of the game’s more intriguing personalities: Judy Alvarez.
Heavily featured in the game’s promotional material, Alvarez has quickly become one of the poster characters of Cyberpunk despite the fact that developer CD Projekt Red has shared relatively little official information about her so far. However, a quick comb through everything we currently know about Cyberpunk 2077 reveals some fascinating details about Alvarez and her role in the game.
Here’s what we know about Judy Alvarez so far:
Who is Judy Alvarez?
Shortly after she was showcased in an early Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, the game’s developers tweeted out a brief profile of Judy Alvarez:
As we learned in a previous Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay preview, “braindance” is an advanced neural interface that allows users to explore someone else’s memories. The twist is that that there are some braindance sequences that are scripted (meaning that they play out largely as the person remembers them) and some are unscripted (which means that the user is able to make their own decisions and influence the course of events). As you may imagine, the unscripted ones tend to be more popular but are also more complicated and potentially dangerous.
This seems to be where Alvarez’s set of skills really comes into play. While mass-marketed chips seem to be fairly safe, the underground unscripted braindance chips demand an experienced technician to help make the process as smooth as possible. In an early video, we even see a Cyberpunk 2077 player character experience a particularly intense braindance that Alvarez helps them understand and eventually recover from.
Based on what we’ve seen of Alvarez so far, it seems that she’s thrilled by the braindance process even if she shies away from suggestions that she’s the best technician in the world. She certainly seems to be the player’s guide through the basic braindance process, but it remains to be seen whether she’s the only technician that the player will work with throughout the course of the campaign.
Is Judy Alvarez Affiliated With Any Gang or Corporation?
Early Cyberpunk 2077 footage suggests that Alvarez is either a member or associate of The Mox gang.
The Mox gang was formed when strip club owner Elizabeth “Lizzie” Borden was brutally murdered by the Tyger Claws gang. Their main goal is to protect the city’s sex workers from similar acts of violence. While their territory doesn’t seem to extend far beyond the club itself, they do seem willing to help people outside of the club if they’re called upon to do so.
It’s not entirely clear at this time what Judy’s association with the club may be or how she became an associate of The Mox, but it certainly seems that she is willing and able to call upon them for protection when she needs to do so. What we don’t currently know is whether or not her allegiance to The Mox is strong enough to potentially impact her relationship with you based on your other allegiance decisions.
So far as that goes, the big question at the moment is whether or not Alvarez will continue to work with you if you form an alliance with the Tyger Claws. It could be that Alvarez has a “live and let live” policy and will only turn against you if you directly threaten her or The Mox, but it’s going to be interesting to see what the extent of this allegiance system is.
Is Judy Alvarez One of Cyberpunk 2077’s Romance Options?
It seems that many Cyberpunk 2077 fans have already developed a crush for Alvarez. To save them some suspense, the Cyberpunk 2077 team has confirmed that Alvarez will be one of the game’s romance options.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that Cyberpunk 2077‘s romance mechanics are quite complex. Romancing a character will require you to meet various requirements. Some of those requirements are fairly basic, but others depend on your personality and actions. For instance, some characters ask their partners to be monogamous while others will only sleep with you if you promise to not be monogamous. That’s a small example of the potential requirements, but the point is that you’re going to have to do more than flirt if you want to romance a character in Cyberpunk 2077.
We know that only those who chose the Street Kid lifepath will be able to romance Alvarez, and it’s also been rumored that only female player characters will be able to pursue a relationship with Alvarez. However, that last detail has not been confirmed at this time.
