Advanced Photonics event to showcase latest advances in photonics research

On 12-14 January 2021, SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and the Chinese Laser Press will host a colloquium sponsored by their co-published journal Advanced Photonics. The six 90-minute interactive events will be moderated by the journal’s associate editors and will cover new research and innovations in nanophotonics, imaging, quantum research, and metalenses. Registration for the events is free and open to the public.

The sessions will be streamed in time zones convenient to anyone in the world, and recordings of the individual sessions — each of which will include interactive Q&A time — will be available at a later date via the Advanced Photonics Colloquium webpage.

12 January 2021: Meta/Nano

Session A: 1 a.m. Pacific/9 a.m. London/5 p.m. Shanghai

  • Moderator: Olivier Martin, EPFL
  • Speakers: Dragimir Neshev, Australian National University, on “Infrared up-conversion imaging by nonlinear semiconductor metasurfaces” and Isabelle Staude, University of Jena, on “Tailoring light fields with semiconductor metasurfaces: stacking functional layers.”

Session B: 9 a.m. Pacific/5 p.m. London/1 a.m. (+1 day) Shanghai

  • Moderator: Shaya Fainman, University of California at San Diego
  • Speakers: Mario Silveirinha, University of Lisbon, on “Fractional Chern numbers and topological pumping in photonic systems” and Gennady Shvets, Cornell University, on “Topological photonics on the nanoscale.”

13 January 2021: Imaging

  • Speakers: Shixiang Xu, Shenzhen University on “Single-shot high-spatiotemporal resolution ultrafast imaging with a frame rate up to 15 Tfps” and Chao Zuo, Nanjing University of Science and Technology on “Fringe pattern analysis using deep learning.”

Session B: 9 a.m. Pacific/5 p.m. London/1 a.m. (+1 day) Shanghai

  • Moderator: Mario Agio, University of Siegen
  • Speakers: Oliver Benson, Humboldt University Berlin, on “Quantum optics with nanodiamonds” and Fabio Sciarrino, University of Rome, Sapienza, on “Vector vortex beam: classical and quantum applications.”
