Even though Bosch has wrapped seven great seasons on Amazon Prime Video, Harry Bosch’s story is still far from over! The police procedural streaming series, starring Titus Welliver as LA Police detective Harry Bosch, continues in new format with a new title – Bosch: Legacy.
But don’t call it a spinoff, as star Welliver doesn’t truly categorize it as such. “I shudder to call it a spin-off because it’s really not; it’s just the continuing saga of Harry Bosch,” he told EW. “He’s in a different place, but it’s a continuation… A lot is revealed toward the end of this final season of Bosch — I do air quotes on that, ‘final season’ — which lays the foundation for where we will find these three characters as we open the new show.”
Indeed it did, and Bosch: Legacy dishes out exactly what its title promises. Two years after the events of Bosch Season 7, Bosch has retired from the LAPD and instead works as a private investigator, while his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) continues the legacy as a patrol officer with the LAPD at Hollywood Station, where Harry was formerly assigned. The series also boasts another familiar face from the original series: Mimi Rogers as high-profile attorney Honey Chandler. New faces include Stephen A. Chang as Maurice “Mo” Bassi, Denise Sanchez as Reina Vasquez, David Moses as Martin Rose, and William Devane as Whitney Vance.
You may have noticed, however, that there’s one big difference with Bosch: Legacy – many fans were surprised that it wasn’t streaming in Bosch’s normal place on Amazon Prime Video when the show began to release new episodes.
Why Isn’t Bosch: Legacy Streaming on Prime Video?
Bosch: Legacy, unlike the original show, is streaming on a free, ad-supported service called Amazon Freevee. The VOD service has changed names a few times. It was once an IMDb product called Freedive before rebranding as IMDb TV. In April 2022, the service then rebranded again as Amazon Freevee.
Freevee is available through Amazon on your computer, and via the Freevee app on most popular devices, including smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, PlayStation, and XBOX. There is no cost when you sign up, and you can watch as much content as you like, but you will have to watch ads if you stream Bosch: Legacy in its new home at Freevee, and you will not be able to watch it on other streaming platforms.
Where and When You Can Watch Bosch: Legacy
The first four episodes of Bosch: Legacy, “The Wrong Side of Goodbye”, “Pumped”, “Message in a Bottle”, and “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades”, were released to Amazon Freevee on May 6, 2022. Episode 5 and 6, called “Plan B” and “Chain of Authenticity”, were available on May 13. Episode 6 and 7, entitled “One of Your Own” and “Bloodline”, will be released on May 20, and the final two episodes of Season 1, “Cat Got a Name” and “Always/All Ways”, will be released on May 27.
Will There Be a Bosch: Legacy Season 2?
Yes! Amazon renewed the “spinoff” series for a second season before they even released the first. The studio is well aware that Harry Bosch has a loyal fanbase who can’t get enough of his story, and they’ll likely continue to deliver new Bosch: Legacy episodes for as long as they can.
