It looks like the original trilogy of Mortal Kombat games is due to make a comeback on modern consoles, as well as entering the online realm, with IGN reporting that PEGI (a rating board that decides on age-based guidelines for game releases in Europe) has accidentally let the news slip out.
An entry titled “Mortal Kombat Kollection Online” was apparently added to the PEGI rating database at this link, although it looks like PEGI has now managed to take the listing down. But before PEGI could scrub it from the record, IGN shared the news and screen-shotted a little description that PEGI had posted.
According to said screenshot, “Mortal Kombat Kollection Online is the original Mortal Kombat trilogy that MK fans always wanted.” The suggestion seems to be that 1992’s Mortal Kombat, 1993’s Mortal Kombat II and 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3 will all find a new life here. This re-release bundle will apparently feature upgraded art and gameplay, as well as adding online features to these old favorites. It is intended to be “an incredible experience” that revives the “klassics.”
There have long been rumors about a collection like this, but reports suggested that Warner Bros dropped the idea early last year. Perhaps PEGI is aware of some as-yet-unannounced information that disproves last year’s reports, but we can’t be 100% sure unless a proper reveal takes place.

Until that time comes, we’ll just have to combine PEGI’s accidental post with our own guesswork – and our gut is telling us that this seems like a highly plausible rumor. While they’ve been putting new features and fighters into Mortal Kombat 11 for the last few months, the MK-helming developers at NetherRealm Studios may well have had time to polish off some remasters for Warner Bros to publish.
PEGI’s post mentions that the Mortal Kombat Kollection Online was meant to launch with an age rating of 18 on January 21, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Since that date is already in the past, we’re a little bit stumped about what’s going on here… but we’ll be sure to let you know if/when a proper announcement is made.
