In an official earnings call that Eurogamer reported on, Ubisoft has revealed its intention to release five triple-A games between now and April 2021 (the end of the next financial year).
The gaming giant had already announced its plans to release the Brexit-inspired hacker game Watch Dogs Legion, the open-world fantasy adventure Gods & Monsters, and the monster-stuffed Tom Clancy title Rainbow Six Quarantine in the near future. But, even with those three upcoming experiences confirmed, the promise of five triple-A games leaves two slots open.
These extra spots, apparently, are taken up by two of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises. This suggestion, of course, caused heaps of speculation online. Some people started hoping that Ubisoft might be working on a secret Splinter Cell game, for example, but those rumors soon got shut down.
Just as the speculation started heating up, Kotaku’s uber-reliable Jason Schreier took to Twitter to share some inside information. With this Tweet, Schreier confirmed that the other two games on Ubisoft’s slate will fall into the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry franchises…

Anyone holding out hope for Splinter Cell is, once again, going to be disappointed. Sorry! (It’s AC and Far Cry.) https://t.co/7hKDV3y5QS

If Schreier’s intel is correct, which it often seems to be, we’ll be seeing new Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry games launching before the next financial year ends in April 2021. Of course, between now and then, we’ll see the launch of the Xbox Series X and the PS5 around about the holiday season 2020.
There have long been rumblings of a new Assassin’s Creed game that will focus on Vikings, so word of a new historical murder experience from Ubisoft shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. The company has already been teasing Vikings-based content with Easter eggy posters in The Division 2.
Things have been a little quiet on the Far Cry front since the post-apocalyptic spinoff title Far Cry New Dawn, though, so the idea of a new Far Cry game being close to release is a bit more unexpected. It’s unclear if this new Far Cry game will be another spinoff or a return to the mainline numbered installments with Far Cry 6. As we hear more about everything on Ubisoft’s slate, we’ll be sure to let you know.
