Mortal Kombat 11’s first Kombat Pack of DLC characters is almost at an end. So far we’ve seen the familiar with Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Sindel. We’ve had special guest stars in the Terminator and the Joker. That leaves the sixth entry, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn. McFarlane’s been wanting his creation to show up in a NetherRealm Studios game for a while and it looks like he’ll be getting his wish, as Spawn will be joining his ultra-violent 90s brethren on March 17.
These days, Spawn is a bit of a pop-culture has-been. His comic is still around, but you don’t really hear anyone talk about it unless they’re giving context to Angela being a Marvel character. His cartoon is left in the past, though Keith David will be reprising his role as Spawn’s voice actor in Mortal Kombat 11. Then there’s the endless attempt to turn Spawn into a movie again, which…I guess has more juice now that Joker did well as an R-rated comic movie.
But hey, you know what Spawn thing is timeless? Action figures and models!
McFarlane Toys has announced that they will be working on figures for Mortal Kombat 11. The first wave is Johnny Cage and Raiden with a second wave featuring Baraka and Kitana. Of course, not only is this a fantastic excuse to release yet another Spawn action figure under the McFarlane Toys banner, but to tie it in with Spawn’s DLC release!

Coming out sometime in March, MK11 Spawn wields a sword, which is enough of an outlier that it’s safe to say Spawn will be swinging that bad boy in at least one of his in-game variations. I mean, if his Mortal Kombat counterpart Scorpion gets to carry a sword, Spawn should too!
The figure stands at 7” with 22 points of articulation, which were granted to him by the toy devil. He’ll be available for a cool $19.99 and will be available at all major retailers, like Walmart, Target, Amazon, GameStop, and Walgreens.
Keeping this relationship and hype going, McFarlane will be stopping by Final Kombat 2020 on Sunday, March 8. This event, which is the championship finals for the Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition, will show off Spawn’s character trailer. So far, the only footage we’ve seen of him is the Kombat Pack introduction trailer that announced all six characters to begin with.
This will be Spawn’s second go as a guest character in a fighting game. Back in 2003, Spawn appeared in the Xbox edition of SoulCalibur II. While he wasn’t in the other versions of the game (Link on GameCube and Heihachi Mishima on PlayStation 2), those versions did include Necrid, a character designed by McFarlane who has yet to appear since due to copyright frustrations.
Spawn will be the final entrant in Kombat Pack 1, but hopefully we’ll soon get word on Kombat Pack 2. Probably the worst-kept-secret is that Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness is on the way. Having Bruce Campbell talk back and forth with Keith David is itself a special kind of wonderful that I can’t wait for.
