Supernatural has been a constant in the TV landscape for more than a decade. Currently making its ways through its 15th and final season toward what was supposed to be a 2020 series finale, a halt in production due to the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the plans for bringing this beloved series about two brothers fighting the forces of evil to an end. So, when will Supernatural Season 15 be back? And when will it get its series finale? Here’s what we know.
Thus far, The CW has aired 13 of Supernatural Season 15’s planned 20 episodes. The last episode to air was “Destiny’s Child” and it aired on March 25th. Sadly, unlike some other CW shows, Supernatural won’t be back for while. According to showrunner Andrew Dabb’s Twitter, the series had filmed through Episode 18 of the season, but, as the visual effects and sound departments have closed due to the outbreak, the already-shot episodes cannot be finished. This means there is currently no date for Supernatural Season 15’s return and no date for the show’s big series finale, which probably would have aired sometime in late April or early May, if everything had gone according to plan.
While the fate of Supernatural‘s series finale is unclear, Dabb did confirm that “we, the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series,” adding “it’s not a matter of ‘if,’ it’s a matter of ‘when.’” A comforting commitment for fans.
In the mean time, Dabb did tease that Supernatural has “some special treats coming along the way– to help us all get through this.”
