Disney+ hit 50 million subscribers globally in early April, shortly after it finally launched in the UK and other regions, and while the platform has still got a way to go until it gets close to Netflix’s 167 million-strong base, it’s not a bad result so far for a streaming service that only originally got off the starting blocks in November, 2019.

In May, the service is celebrating Star Wars Day by making the closing part of Lucasfilm’s latest trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, available for UK subscribers. There’s also a handful of new Marvel animated fare to look forward to, including Marvel Rising: Operation Shuri. In terms of library movies, the highlights are Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Night at the Museum.
For everyone wondering if Marvel might opt to release its Black Widow standalone film on Disney+: that doesn’t appear to be an option under consideration at the moment. Indeed, Marvel has recently updated its cinema release calendar and given Scarlett Johansson’s solo MCU movie a revised November 6 slot.
