AMC has released the Fear the Walking Dead season 6 key art, which confirms that Morgan Jones, who’s fate was left unclear last year, will return this season. In what shape Morgan will appear next season remains to be seen, though. The key art teases dark times for the characters, whose startlingly bloodshot eyes pierce through the promo.

Check it out below:

“The cast and crew of Fear the Walking Dead are very excited to share this piece of key art with our amazing fans,” said Morgan actor Lennie James in a press release attached to the key art. “Last season left Morgan in a very perilous situation. We cannot wait for you to discover what happens next to him and the rest of the group in our new season this fall. A truly transformative season that will see all of the gang challenged in ways they haven’t ever been before.”

The Fear the Walking Dead season 6 synopsis teases that the show will explore “what has become of the unlikely family once united by a mission to help those in need. After being torn apart by Virginia (Colby Minifie) and her Pioneers, the group is now dispersed across her far-reaching settlements.”

“Morgan’s (Lennie James) last message at the end of season five implored the group to ‘Just Live’ and this season we’ll see what that means to each of them,” the synopsis continues. “Some will find the stability and opportunity within Virginia’s communities to be intriguing, some will sink into darkness, while others will fight back against what has been forced upon them. Life behind Virginia’s walls will test each and every one of them in different ways, forcing them to define who they are in this new world.”

While it definitely seems that Morgan will be back, there’s always the chance that this is a fake out, like when Cliff Curtis’ character Travis Manawa died in the season 3 premiere.

Were Morgan to die in the season 6 premiere, it would introduce yet another major change to the series. Fear the Walking Dead has seen its fair amount of change in the past few years after losing original showrunner Dave Erickson, who led the series into some really interesting stories that set it apart from its older sibling. Season 4 saw the arrival of new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg as well as James as Morgan. Morgan’s journey to the world of the spinoff series meant some other big cast changes for the series, as it shifted focus from the Clark family, Fear the Walking Dead‘s original stars, to a whole new group of characters.

Both Kim Dickens (Madison) and Frank Dillane (Nick) were killed off, making way for Maggie Grace’s Althea, Garret Dillahunt’s John Dorie, and Jenna Elfman’s June, and even Dwight (Austin Amelio) of The Walking Dead. The only remaining characters left from the original group are Alycia Debnam-Carey’s tough-as-nails Alicia and Colman Domingo’s delightful Victor Strand. We’ll just have to wait and see if they can survive another season.

Fear the Walking Dead season 6 premieres on Oct. 11 at 9 pm ET on AMC.
