Who lives in a coffee pot under the sea? Patrick Star, apparently….

In case you haven’t already heard, everyone’s favorite sea echinoderm is getting his own spinoff show! Longtime neighbor and best friend to SpongeBob SquarePants is ditching his classic under-a-rock abode and is changing scenery to spend time with his sea star family! And while there might be some retconning involved with Patrick’s kin, we don’t need to dive deep into the specifics of SpongeBob canon, do we?

Our friends at Nickelodeon have provided us an exclusive first look at the brand new open for The Patrick Star Show! Let’s take a look….

The intro gets straight to business with Patrick announcing, “Hi I’m Patrick Star, and I live with my parents!” as he proceeds to slam his arm when he closes the door. Patrick’s appearance has changed slightly from his SpongeBob days, mainly with his fashion choices. The normally shirtless starfish is seen dawning a button-up Hawaiian shirt with a similar pattern to his iconic shorts. However, his shorts are different this time around, sporting a plain purple look.

In the new show open, Patrick introduces us to more members of the Star-clan — notably different from the starfish we saw in Season 2’s episode, “I’m With Stupid.” Patrick’s dad is seen fishing in a small fishbowl on their living room table as he somehow manages to catch a sentient toilet with sharp teeth, showcasing the bizarre and zany humor SpongeBob SquarePants is so famously known for.

The open also offers a glimpse of Patrick’s mother who’s creatively preparing the entirety of a steak dinner in a toaster. Yet another new character is introduced: Patrick’s camera-shy little sister, who appears to be a squid instead of a starfish as she inks up the screen. Why is she not the same species, you may ask? We don’t have the answer as of now, and if Mr. Krabs’ whale daughter Pearl is any indication, we might not ever get any explanation. Finally, we get a brief look at Patrick’s grandpa doing circles on a scooter indoors, not exactly ideal for home maintenance.

Patrick concludes the show open by revealing the audience to his room and exclaiming, “This is my show!” right before the title card appears. And if you were worried SpongeBob wouldn’t make an appearance here, no need to fret. A younger version of the Nickelodeon icon can be seen in the bottom left corner cheering Patrick on as he embarks on his first solo adventure.

The all-new series follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom.

The Patrick Star Show theme song is composed by Ego Plum with lyrics by Mr. Lawrence (who voices Plankton on SpongeBob). Series composers include Sage Guyton, Jeremy Wakefield and Nicolas Carr, who also serves as music editor. The theme song from the show’s opening will be available on Nickelodeon’s upcoming “Mega Music Fest Album”, releasing on Friday July 16. The 10-track album will be available on all major streaming platforms and include tunes from series such as, The Loud House, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, The Casagrandes, Side Hustle and more.

The Patrick Star Show is the second SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff after the CGI-animated Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years premiered on Paramount+ earlier this year. Longtime voice of Patrick, Bill Fagerbakke, continues to voice SpongeBob’s dimwitted buddy. Tom Wilson (SpongeBob SquarePants) plays Cecil Star, Patrick’s fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dad who always puts his family first; Cree Summer (Rugrats) plays Bunny Star, Patrick’s loving, sea star mom who is a kooky oddball; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) plays Squidina Star, Patrick’s 8-year-old little sister who drinks her coffee from a sippy cup; and Dana Snyder (The Penguins of Madagascar) plays GrandPat Star, Patrick’s genius grandpa, and the most intelligent member of the Star family. Summer also voices Grandma Tentacles, Squidward’s grandma. SpongeBob voice actors like Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) will also appear
