Nintendo recently posted a video and some additional information on their Japanese website which showcases a new Brain Age title for Nintendo Switch.
This new Brain Age game looks relatively similar to the previous entries in the series. That is to say that it will present you with a series of mental challenges designed to keep you sharp and test your “brain age.” Anyone who played the original entries in the franchise (which appeared on the DS and 3DS) will be relatively familiar with the basic experience this upcoming title will seemingly offer.
What’s really interesting, though, are the ways that this new Brain Age title will take advantage of the Switch’s capabilities. Along with having to hold the Switch vertically at times, you’ll also be asked to use your Joy-Cons to do things like mime the answers to math questions and perform certain motions required to complete various tests. It also looks like this Brain Age game will support a mobile companion app that keeps track of your achievements and lets you share that information with others.
It’s potentially worth noting that this initial trailer focuses on young and elderly gamers. This feels like a marketing decision, but we’ll be interested to see whether or not Nintendo develops this game with those demographics in mind as it relates to the game’s challenge level and the nature of its puzzles. We’re also interested to see whether or not this version of the game will feature a variation of Sudoku as some of the previous games in the franchise have.

In any case, it’s nice to see that Brain Age is making a comeback. We’ve slowly seen the Nintendo Switch feature more and more games that would have previously appeared on the 3DS, and this game seems like the latest example of Nintendo essentially treating the Switch like their flagship handheld and console gaming device.
This Brain Age game for Switch is set to release in Japan on December 27, and there’s currently no word regarding if and when it will be released outside of Japan.
