New reports indicate that Capcom has indeed been developing a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake that is set to release in the near future.
This information seems to originate from the YouTube channel Spawn Wave, but Eurogamer has since confirmed that their sources have reported similar information. Regardless, the details are roughly the same. Capcom has reportedly been working on a remake of the 1999 survival horror game Resident Evil 3 which is set to be released possibly as early as 2020.
We’ve heard RE team members tease the possibility of a Resident Evil 3 remake in the past, so it’s really not a huge surprise to learn that such a project is actively being developed. If it is true that the team is looking to release the game by next year, then we suspect that it will utilize the same engine and basic mechanics sen in the Resident Evil 2 remake.
However, the very nature of Resident Evil 3‘s gameplay means that it shouldn’t be too similar to 2019’s Resident Evil 2. If you never got the chance to play it, think of Resident Evil 3 as the Resident Evil version of a slasher movie. Much of the gameplay revolves around the titular Nemesis creature pursuing you at intervals throughout the game.

That may sound similar to how the Tyrant is utilized in Resident Evil 2, but Nemesis proves to be a far more persistent and dangerous foe who is capable of breaking the “rules” that other monsters must adhere to. While finding ways to temporarily delay him in the early game is often your best bet, managing to defeat him will often reward you with rare items. He’s actually closer to the stalkers in the Clock Tower series than a traditional Resident Evil foe.
Resident Evil 3 remains one of the series’ most fascinating outings, and we’re quite excited to see how this remake modernizes some of its more intriguing ideas.
