After seven seasons on Nurse Jackie, Edie Falco is turning in her Vicodin for a police badge.
As first reported by Deadline, Falco will star on a new CBS drama series, Tommy. Falco will play Abigail “Tommy” Thomas, a former high ranking NYPD officer who is now the first ever female Chief of Police for LAPD. After initially ordering a pilot, CBS picked up Tommy to series.
Edie Falco is a big get for any network TV show, having spent the much of her career on pay cable. Falco won an Emmy for her performance on Nurse Jackie and prior to that she won three Emmys for portraying Carmella Soprano on The Sopranos.
Tommy comes from Bull creator Paul Attanasio and will be produced by Amblin Television and CBS TV Studios. Tom Szentgyorgyi (fitting first name!) will serve as showrunner. Tommy was technically part of the 2019 pilot season along with other CBS shows like Evil and The Unicorn but CBS’s tardiness in picking up the series (and awareness of Falco’s schedule) pushed the release date to 2020.
